A member of the Transcarpathian Regional Council was sentenced to 7 years for illegal dealings

The High Anti-Corruption Court handed down a verdict against a member of the Transcarpathian Regional Council and his accomplice.

The deputy was found guilty of illegally smuggling people across the state border and abuse of influence. The court sentenced him to seven years in prison, barred him from holding certain positions for three years, confiscated his property, and imposed a fine.

According to the investigation, the deputy offered to arrange for individuals subject to military conscription to leave Ukraine illegally. The cost of this “service” was 10,000 euros per person. He also promised to provide transportation from Kyiv and the option to return to Ukraine later.

In another incident, the official offered to change the designated use of land plots in exchange for 15% of the authorized capital of the company that was to become their owner. To this end, he promised to negotiate with the mayor, officials, and city council members.

The court found his accomplice guilty of illegally smuggling people across the border and sentenced him to five years in prison, with a three-year ban on holding certain positions.
