The director of a Ukrzaliznytsia branch has been charged with causing 48 million hryvnias in losses
Law enforcement officials have notified the director of one of the branches of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” that he is under investigation on suspicion of misappropriating state-owned property through abuse of his official position. According to the investigation, his actions caused losses of more than 48 million hryvnias.
According to investigators, between May and August 2025, the official organized 184 auctions for the transfer of freight semi-cars for use through the “Prozorro.Sales” system. Instead of the “English” auctions—where the price rises—as required by internal rules, the auctions were conducted according to the “Dutch” auction principle, in which the price gradually decreases.
The prosecutor’s office notes that demand for freight cars was rising at the time, so there were no economic grounds for lowering the price. According to the investigation, this allowed certain companies to use Ukrzaliznytsia’s property under terms that were disadvantageous to the state-owned enterprise.
The official has been notified of charges in 184 separate instances. The prosecutor’s office is also asking the court to impose pretrial detention as a preventive measure and to suspend him from office.
