An expert explained the evening power outage schedules in Ukraine
Despite the hot weather and heavy use of air conditioners, no power outages are expected in Ukraine during the day. However, power rationing schedules may be in effect in the evening.
According to an expert, this situation is due to the patterns of electricity consumption. The greatest strain on the power grid occurs in the evening, when people return home and turn on their lights and appliances. That is why, when necessary, power restrictions are implemented primarily in the evening.
According to Omelchenko, although Ukrainians most often use air conditioners during the day due to the heat, this consumption is covered by solar power plants.
“Therefore, no major problems are expected during the day (ed.). But in the evening—yes,” the expert noted.
Omelchenko therefore advises Ukrainians to shift their peak electricity consumption—particularly the use of air conditioners—to daytime hours: from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
RBC-Ukraine asked Volodymyr Omelchenko, director of energy and infrastructure programs at the Razumkov Center, about this.
Several regions may implement power outage schedules on June 30.
"Mykolaivoblenergo" added that hourly power outages (one phase) may be implemented from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
As a reminder, Ukrenergo has warned of possible prolonged power outages this summer.
