Energoatom is preparing all power units to operate at full capacity

Energoatom has completed scheduled maintenance work on four power units and is continuing to prepare the power system for the fall-winter season.

According to company CEO Pavlo Kovtoniuk, the plan is to bring all power units up to full capacity by mid-November to ensure the stable operation of the power grid during periods of increased demand.

Kovtonyuk also described the situation at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant: the plant’s equipment is deteriorating, there is a critical shortage of personnel, and frequent blackouts repeatedly jeopardize nuclear and radiation safety.

Currently, Energoatom operates nine power units at the South Ukraine, Rivne, and Khmelnytskyi NPPs, with a total capacity of 7,880 MW, all of which are located in territory controlled by Ukraine.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP, with six VVER-1000 power units totaling 6,000 MW, has not generated electricity since September 11 of that year, following its occupation on March 3–4, 2022.

“NAEK’s main task is to bring all power units up to full capacity by mid-November so that they can operate at maximum capacity before the start of the heating season,” he emphasized.

Energoatom has announced an international competition for the position of chairman of the board.

Earlier, NAEK “Energoatom” officially received a license to operate a nuclear facility. On May 28, the company was issued a license to operate the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF), allowing it to begin full-scale operations in accordance with safety requirements.

NAEK “Energoatom” reported that it is nearing the midpoint of the scheduled maintenance campaign at Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
