Zelenskyy Discussed New Sanctions Against Russia and Strengthening Air Defense with a U.S. Senator

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who arrived in Kyiv on a working visit. During the talks, the parties discussed increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, Ukraine’s need for air defense systems, and further military cooperation with the United States.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that this was Lindsey Graham’s tenth visit to Ukraine since he began traveling to our country. The President emphasized that Kyiv highly values such consistent support from the U.S. senator and thanked him for his attention to Ukraine.

Separately, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the support of the Ukrainian military. According to him, Graham has repeatedly highlighted the courage of Ukraine’s defenders and supported decisions that help strengthen the country’s defense capabilities. “A good meeting with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham in Kyiv. This is already his tenth visit to our country, and we appreciate this support,” the president wrote.

They discussed new sanctions against Russia

One of the main topics of the talks was increasing economic pressure on Russia. Zelenskyy emphasized that sanctions remain one of the key tools for weakening the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war.

The president stressed that the more successful Ukraine is on the battlefield, the greater the chances for effective diplomacy. At the same time, this requires continuing to put pressure on Russia not only through military but also through economic means.

According to Zelenskyy, Lindsey Graham informed him about U.S. lawmakers’ work on a new sanctions bill. “The stronger Ukraine is on the battlefield, the greater the chances that diplomacy will ultimately succeed. And right now, it is important to intensify our long-term sanctions pressure on Russia through new sanctions measures by our partners,” the head of state noted.

Ukraine Needs More Air Defense Systems

During the meeting, special attention was paid to air defense issues. The president emphasized that protecting Ukrainian cities and the civilian population remains one of the top priorities. According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine needs additional modern air defense systems, as Russia continues to regularly attack Ukrainian cities with missiles and strike drones. That is why the issue of strengthening air defense remains one of the key topics in negotiations with international partners.

The President also recalled the agreements reached with the United States regarding the production of American Patriot systems in Ukraine. He noted that it is now important to move from political decisions to their practical implementation. “It is very important to implement all of this now at the operational level,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

Gratitude to the United States

The head of state specifically highlighted the U.S.’s support for Ukraine. He thanked the U.S. president, Congress, and representatives of both political parties for the assistance provided to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war.

According to Zelenskyy, it is precisely this bipartisan support that allows Ukraine to receive military aid and modern weapons and to strengthen its defenses. The president expressed hope that cooperation between Kyiv and Washington will only grow stronger in the future. “I thank the United States, the President, and Congress for their bipartisan and consistent support,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

The meeting with Lindsey Graham marked another stage in consultations between Ukraine and its American partners. The parties reaffirmed their intention to continue cooperation in the field of security, work on new sanctions against Russia, and strengthen Ukraine’s air defense system. The head of state reported on the results of the meeting on his Telegram channel.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham stated that Washington should develop cooperation with Ukraine in the field of drone technology, calling the rejection of such a partnership a major mistake.
