At Bila Tserkva Correctional Colony No. 35, staff prevented an attempt to smuggle prohibited substances to an inmate. The substances were discovered during an inspection of a package that had been delivered to the facility via a courier service.
According to reports, while inspecting a package addressed to one of the inmates from a civilian, five seeds were found inside a package of “San Sanych” brand pumpkin seeds; hidden inside these seeds were small packets containing a white powdery substance of unknown origin.
An investigative team from the Bila Tserkva District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv Oblast was summoned to the facility in connection with this incident.
The correctional facility reminded everyone that delivering prohibited items onto the premises of correctional facilities is subject to administrative or criminal liability.
The facility’s administration stated that it will continue to strengthen controls to prevent prohibited items from reaching inmates.
