Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Kravchenko resigns amid allegations — BBC
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has resigned amid allegations related to illegal call centers. This was reported by BBC News World.
On the eve, anti-corruption investigators conducted searches at Kravchenko’s offices. According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, an official from the Prosecutor General’s Office allegedly ran a money-laundering scheme.
Investigators’ version
NABU and SAPO stated that a network in Kravchenko’s office received money for protecting call centers that carried out telephone fraud and laundered assets worth millions. According to NABU, the funds were subsequently spent on real estate, jewelry, and other valuables.

Kravchenko’s position
In a statement on Sunday evening, Kravchenko called the allegations completely unfounded and denied any wrongdoing. In his resignation letter, he said that he did not want his position to be used as a tool for political confrontation.
The following day, Kravchenko submitted his resignation and thanked President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Verkhovna Rada for their trust. As of the time of publication, Zelenskyy had not publicly commented on the prosecutor general’s resignation.
The BBC also notes that Ukraine has candidate status for accession to the European Union on the condition of a convincing fight against corruption. In 2025, an attempt to limit the independence of NABU and SAPO sparked protests; afterward, Zelenskyy restored the independence of these bodies.
