India is denying the consul access to six detained Ukrainians

Since March 13, Ukrainian officials in India have been denied access to six detained Ukrainian citizens.

This was reported by the Foreign Ministry’s press service in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda.

On March 27, a special court of India’s National Investigation Agency ruled to keep the Ukrainians in custody until April 6.

The Ukrainian side states that the embassy is taking diplomatic measures; in particular, Ambassador Oleksandr Polischuk met with representatives of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and other agencies, where he lodged an official protest over the violation of the detainees’ rights.

The Ukrainian side is also demanding their immediate release and return home.

Despite repeated requests, as of April 2, India has still not granted the consul access to the detainees.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the case is under special scrutiny, and efforts to secure the Ukrainians’ release are ongoing.

India has approved $25 billion in military purchases to strengthen its army following the conflict with Pakistan. The list includes aircraft, drones, missiles, and surveillance systems.

Russia and India have agreed to prepare for the resumption of direct liquefied natural gas supplies—for the first time since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
