Inflation in Ukraine rose to 8.1 percent year-over-year in August
In August, the consumer price index in Ukraine stood at 0.1%. At the same time, year-over-year inflation accelerated to 8.1%, which affected the cost of goods and services.
“Consumer inflation in August 2026 stood at 0.1% compared to July and 8.1% compared to August 2025. Core inflation was 0.5% (compared to July 2026) and 8.1% (compared to August 2025), respectively,” the report states.

According to the State Statistics Service, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages in the consumer market fell by 1.3% in August. Vegetables and fruits saw the largest declines (by 18.3% and 12.0%, respectively). Butter prices fell by 0.6%. At the same time, prices for eggs, sugar, fish and fish products, meat and meat products, cheese, bread, pasta, and fermented milk products rose by 4.0% to 0.6%.
Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose by 1.5%, driven in particular by a 2.1% increase in the price of tobacco products.
Clothing and footwear became 2.5% cheaper, with footwear down 3.1% and clothing down 2.2%.

Among the main factors influencing the inflation rate in August were a 16.8% increase in water supply rates (an annual increase of 77.6%) and a 16.7% increase in sewerage rates (+73.6%), which caused prices (rates) for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other types of fuel to rise by 1.3%. In addition, fuel and lubricants became 8.1% more expensive (+38.7%), and fares for road passenger transport rose by 6.6% (+39.1%).
