The Cabinet of Ministers is preparing support for farmers following Russian attacks on ports
On August 2, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi held an emergency meeting with representatives of the agricultural sector due to the intensification of Russian attacks on ports and ships carrying Ukrainian agricultural products. The government promised to develop additional support measures for farmers who are suffering losses due to strikes on export infrastructure.
According to the prime minister, the purpose of the meeting was to identify specific solutions to ensure logistics amid the intensifying Russian terror at sea. “Russia is escalating its terror at sea. It is attacking ships carrying Ukrainian agricultural products and port infrastructure. This poses serious risks to exports, the entire industry, and the economy as a whole,” Koretskyi noted.
The meeting was prompted by yet another series of attacks on maritime logistics: on the night of July 27, Russian troops attacked civilian merchant ships in ports in the Mykolaiv region, resulting in one death and several injuries. The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority emphasized at the time that this was yet another deliberate attack by Russia on civilian shipping.
The prime minister said that the government is working to diversify and restore supply channels. At the same time, a set of measures to support the industry is being prepared—in particular, in cooperation with banks to provide financing for producers—and diplomatic efforts are being intensified with partner countries that serve as key export markets for Ukrainian agricultural products.
Following the meeting, priority steps were agreed upon, tasks were assigned, and individuals responsible for each area were designated. “We agreed to hold such meetings regularly throughout this emergency period,” Koretsky added.
