According to her, the conversation covered the war, defense cooperation between Ukraine and the U.S., and the development of modern military technologies. “I just conducted an exclusive interview with Ukraine’s newly appointed Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara. We talked about the current state of the war with Russia, how he views Ukraine’s long-term military relations with the United States, and how Ukraine can help the U.S. become a global leader in drone production and modern combat operations,” Lumer wrote.
She also reported that the full version of the interview and a separate article based on its findings will be published shortly. According to the blogger, this was Yevhen Khmara’s first interview since he began serving as acting head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense. One of the main topics of the conversation was Russia’s war against Ukraine and the future strategic partnership between Kyiv and Washington.
The parties also discussed the development of drone technology. Lumer noted that she spoke with the Ukrainian official about how Ukraine’s experience could benefit the United States in the field of drone production and modern methods of warfare. “Ukraine can help the United States become a global leader in drone manufacturing and modern combat operations so that the two countries can defeat their common enemies and deter Russian aggression,” she said, citing one of the key topics of the conversation.
During her visit to Ukraine, Laura Lumer has already held a series of meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian government and civil society. Earlier, she recorded interviews with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum, and Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, and also spoke with Ukrainian journalists.
In addition, the American blogger met with Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov and First Deputy Head of the Office of the President Serhiy Kyslytsia; she visited Bucha, met with employees of DTEK, and held a number of other meetings during her stay in Ukraine.
