A Kyiv resident sold nonexistent drone parts and defrauded people out of 900,000 hryvnias

In Kyiv, law enforcement officials notified a 24-year-old resident of the capital that he was under suspicion of selling nonexistent drone parts. To conceal the scheme, the man enlisted accomplices, registering them as sole proprietors, and the funds from customers were deposited directly into their bank accounts.

According to the investigation, the suspect posted ads for the sale of UAV parts in specialized groups on messaging apps. He assured potential buyers that the goods were available, but full prepayment was a mandatory condition. In reality, however, he had no intention of fulfilling the orders.

To maintain the cover-up, the man enlisted accomplices whom he registered as sole proprietors—it was to their bank accounts that customers transferred the funds. Law enforcement has so far identified one of the victims: a Kyiv resident who ordered UAV components and transferred nearly 900,000 UAH to the scammers but never received his order.

Investigators from the Shevchenkivskyi Police Department have charged the suspect under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud committed by a group of persons acting in concert on a particularly large scale). The suspect faces up to eight years in prison. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
