Kyiv customs officials stopped the illegal export of Cossack rings and a phonograph

Kyiv Customs seized 17th-century Cossack rings and an “SP-1” portable gramophone from international mail shipments. Someone had attempted to illegally ship these valuables abroad—to Poland and Israel.

During a customs inspection, law enforcement officers discovered items with signs of antiquity and sent them for examination to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. Experts confirmed that the seized silver rings are authentic men’s jewelry from the 17th-century Cossack era of archaeological origin, adorned with engraved ornamentation.

Customs officials emphasized that it is prohibited to sell or collect archaeological artifacts as private individuals, or to export them outside the country.

In another package, a portable “SP-1” gramophone in working condition was discovered. This model was produced in Leningrad in limited quantities from 1948 through the 1950s. Due to its short production run, this rare record player is highly valued among collectors.

Reports of customs violations (Part 2 of Article 473 of the Customs Code of Ukraine) were filed regarding the attempted illegal shipment of cultural property. All artifacts were seized pending a court decision.
