Kyivstar is shutting down 3G service in three regions of Ukraine starting August 18
Starting August 18, Kyivstar will begin shutting down 3G service in some towns and villages in the Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Khmelnytskyi regions.
The 3G frequency bands will be reallocated to 4G. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, this will affect Kryvyi Rih and the Kryvyi Rih district. In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the changes will take place in the cities of Horodenka, Dolyna, and Sniatyn, as well as in the Verkhovyna, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kalush districts. In the Khmelnytskyi region, 3G will be shut down in the cities of Dunaivtsi, Krasyliv, Netishyn, Polonne, Starokostiantyniv, and Khmelnytskyi, as well as in the Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi, and Shepetivka districts.
“These changes are part of a long-term strategy for the development of telecom infrastructure. We are phasing out outdated technologies to improve LTE performance and, eventually, expand 5G coverage across the entire territory of Ukraine,” the company notes.
These cities will not be left without mobile internet, as 4G technology will replace 3G. Instructions for the transition have been published for subscribers, and if a SIM card does not support 4G, it can be replaced free of charge with a USIM—while retaining the same number—at the nearest company store.
The company announced this decision back in May.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation plans to require the largest operators—Kyivstar, Vodafone, and lifecell—to provide service beyond the current 10-hour standard.
