Klitschko warned that Kyiv's preparations for winter are proceeding at a slow pace
As of mid-August, Kyiv had completed about half of the planned work to prepare the city for the new heating season. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the capital is currently nearly 50% ready.
Preparatory work is scheduled to be completed by the start of the heating season.
“Last winter, during severe cold spells, the aggressor deliberately targeted energy and heat-generating facilities. And as we prepare for the heating season, our main task is to set up a backup system. Kyiv’s heating system is one of the largest in Europe; it took decades to build. And it’s impossible to radically change it in such a short period of time,” Klitschko said.
He also complained that the city lacks specialists, funds, and time.
“Today we’re saying that nearly half of what was planned has been completed. But this figure is an arithmetic mean of dozens of works and projects. They vary in scale, specifics, the equipment required, and a number of other factors. This determines the costs and completion timelines. For example, some projects are 90% complete or more, while others are objectively impossible to complete in a quarter or half a year,” Klitschko noted.
However, according to him, the main preparatory measures in Kyiv are scheduled to be completed by the start of the heating season, and fundamental projects involving the manufacture of equipment are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
This was stated by the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
