"Ukrposhta" has issued two postage stamps dedicated to Ukrainian Song Day. The new issues are titled “Lullaby” and “As If the Viburnum Were Dressed for a Wedding.” Each stamp has a print run of 300,000 copies. This was announced by Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smiliansky during a special stamp cancellation ceremony.
It is noted that the sketches for the postage stamps were based on the works of artist and icon painter Polina Myalkovska.
The “Lullaby” stamp depicts a mother embracing her child, symbolizing maternal protection, while the second conveys an atmosphere of youth and the image of the viburnum, which is one of the most recognizable symbols of Ukrainian culture, representing the homeland, family, feminine beauty, and the courage of the people.
The national postal operator added that the print run for the postage block totals 4,800; the “First Day” envelope was issued in a print run of 20,000 copies; and 350 presentation folders were produced. The price of the stamp set is 591 UAH.
“Today, when Russia is waging war not only against us on the battlefield but also on the cultural front—destroying our books, concert halls, and libraries—it seems to me it is appropriate to issue one of the symbols of Ukraine—our Ukrainian song,” Smiliansky added.
Separately, the CEO explained that it is important for “Ukrposhta” that every stamp put into circulation reflect the current situation of Ukrainians and the events on the front lines.
“So, if you ask today what the New Year’s stamp will look like, we don’t yet know what it will be, because we need to capture that mood, that situation, and those themes we’re discussing here—almost like news—and they must be timely,” noted the CEO of the national postal operator.
