The Ukrainian Armed Forces Have Expanded Leave and Transfer Rights for Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
A law has come into effect in Ukraine that expands the rights of military personnel who have been conditionally released early from serving their sentences to perform contract service. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
From now on, such service members will be entitled to 15 days of annual basic leave with full pay and a health allowance. They can receive this leave after one year of contract service, provided that administrative supervision has been terminated.
The law also establishes, for the first time, a mechanism for transferring former convicts from specialized units to other military units. To qualify, a soldier must have served at least one year and not be under administrative supervision. In the event of injury or illness, a transfer may be granted earlier—based on the conclusion of a military medical commission.
In addition, the document expands the grounds for early termination of a contract. Service members will be able to be discharged due to a disability resulting from an injury or illness sustained during service, as well as after release from captivity, if they do not wish to renew their contract.
