Luchanov was not on vacation at the time of the Moseychuk brothers' murder
Stanislav Luchanov, former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, was on leave from June 22 to 28.
According to the investigation, the Moseychuk brothers were killed on July 1 near the 155th Brigade’s training ground in the Poltava region. On that day, Luchanov was officially neither on leave nor on sick leave.
During the hearing to determine Luchanov’s pretrial detention, prosecutor Serhiy Mirzoyan noted that battalion commander Oleksiy Dolgolenko is suspected of the murder of the Moseychuk brothers, having acted on the orders of his commander, Stanislav Luchanov.
Luchanov denied his guilt, noting that he was on leave at the time of the crime and therefore could not have issued such orders.
Roman and Maxim Moseychuk were abducted on June 27. Accordingly, at the time of the brothers’ abduction, Luchanov was on leave, and on the day of the murder, he was supposed to be performing his official duties in the brigade.
As Klyuyko noted, Luchanov took sick leave from July 6–9. On July 11, he was suspended from duty and placed on special assignment.
Yuriy Babych, deputy chief of the Main Directorate of the Military Prosecutor’s Office, previously stated that on July 6, representatives of the Military Prosecutor’s Office personally met with the brigade commander at the deployment site and questioned him regarding his possible involvement in the crime. During his conversation with the Military Prosecutor’s Office, Luchanov denied any involvement.
What led up to this?
In early July, hromadske’s sources within the Defense Forces and law enforcement agencies reported that nine soldiers from the 155th Mechanized Brigade had been detained on suspicion of kidnapping two civilian men from the Kyiv region, and that the brigade commander, Stanislav Luchanov, was wanted. Subsequently, the “South” Operational Command confirmed that Luchanov had left his military unit without authorization.
On July 13, law enforcement officers detained Luchanov in Kyiv. He became the tenth suspect in the case of the abduction of the Moseychuk brothers.
During a court hearing on July 14, prosecutor Serhiy Mirzoyan revealed details of the abduction and murder of the Moseychuk brothers in the Kyiv region. According to the investigation, Luchanov decided to enlist eight military personnel under his command to carry out the kidnapping of the brothers.
On July 27, the suspected soldiers arrived at the brothers’ residence in the village of Kalynivka and illegally entered their property. According to the prosecutor, they used physical force against the brothers, tied their hands and feet, blindfolded them, and forcibly placed them in vehicles.
The brothers were then taken to military unit A5001 near Poltava, where they were unlawfully detained until July 1. According to the investigation, on that day, Luchanov decided to kill the brothers to cover up the abduction and enlisted the help of battalion commander Oleksiy Dolgolenko.
