The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has updated the list of positions for which an infantry assault contract with a fixed term of service ranging from six to 14 months can be signed. From now on, this opportunity extends to a number of officer positions in mortar and unmanned aerial vehicle units. The updated list includes:
- mortar (artillery) battery commander;
- deputy commander of a mortar (artillery) battery for psychological support of personnel;
- mortar (artillery) platoon commander;
- mortar (artillery) platoon commander—senior battery officer;
- company commander for officers with military registration specialties 393000 and 063401, which are related to the combat use of unmanned systems;
- deputy company commander for the same specialties;
- platoon commander for military specialties 393000 and 063401.
The Ministry of Defense explained that the changes primarily concern commanders of unmanned aerial vehicle combat units and mortar units. “Thus, the pilot project applies to commanders of combat units equipped with unmanned systems and commanders of mortar units,” the ministry noted.
The ministry reiterated that this is a pilot program allowing for the signing of contracts with a clearly defined term of service—ranging from six to 14 months. Now, military personnel in several additional categories will be able to take advantage of this opportunity. According to the Ministry of Defense, expanding the list of positions is intended to help staff units carrying out combat missions in the most critical areas, particularly unmanned aerial vehicle units and mortar crews. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.
As a reminder, since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has deployed 1,066 kilometers of anti-drone defenses along key logistics routes. Such defenses help ensure the safer delivery of ammunition, equipment, and supplies, as well as the evacuation of the wounded from frontline areas.
The Ministry of Defense has authorized the deployment of the Cyclops universal drone interceptor.
