In Bukovina, human remains found after the Dniester River receded were reburied
In the village of Kormany in the Chernivtsi region, human remains found on the banks of the Dniester River after the river had receded significantly were reburied. The remains were transferred to the local cemetery in accordance with religious and ethical norms.
Local residents noticed the bones and skull fragments while out enjoying the outdoors. As explained by the Sokyryany community, the remains were washed to the surface due to a drop in water levels and soil erosion at the site of an old cemetery, which had been flooded when the Dniester Reservoir was created.
Local authorities have urged residents to report any other human remains they discover to the village head or the city council so that they can be properly reburied.

A historic reburial took place at the National Military Memorial Cemetery for Colonel Andriy Melnyk of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, Head of the OUN, and his wife, Sofia Fedak-Melnyk.
