In the Chernihiv region, a teenager was injured by an explosion caused by a fuse his father had brought back from the front lines

In Bobrovytsia, Nizhyn District, a 14-year-old boy sustained injuries to his arm and both legs when the fuse of a grenade he was trying to dismantle exploded. The victim was hospitalized, and his life is not in danger at this time. 

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernihiv Oblast.

The investigation established that the teenager’s father had brought the explosive device home from the combat zone back in 2022. During a search of the residence, law enforcement officers discovered an entire arsenal: an F-1 grenade with a fuse, a sawed-off hunting rifle, a revolver, and six dozen rounds of ammunition of various calibers. All items found and debris from the explosion were seized and sent for forensic analysis.

The police have opened a criminal investigation into the illegal handling of weapons and ammunition under the supervision of the Nizhyn District Prosecutor’s Office. Investigative actions are ongoing to determine all the circumstances surrounding the storage of dangerous items in a private home. Law enforcement officials once again urge citizens not to bring or store ammunition in civilian premises due to the deadly danger it poses to those around them.

As a reminder, on the evening of April 30, a 68-year-old resident of Bila Tserkva threw an RGD-5 combat grenade over the fence of the district territorial recruitment center, where it detonated. No one was injured in the explosion, and no damage to the building or property was reported.

In Okhtyrka, a local resident detonated a combat grenade on the street, injuring the perpetrator himself, three law enforcement officers, and one passerby.
