In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a man threw a grenade at police officers during his arrest

On the morning of April 21, an incident involving an armed assailant occurred in the village of Mykolaivka, Synelnykivsky District, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. 

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

During an attempt to apprehend him, the offender used combat grenades against police officers, resulting in mass injuries among law enforcement personnel.

The incident began at 6:30 a.m. following an anonymous call reporting the erratic behavior of a local resident. 

The man was heavily intoxicated and openly stated that he had two combat grenades on him, threatening to use them.

When officers from the Synelnykivsky District Police Department arrived at the scene, the suspect resorted to extreme measures. 

He threw the ammunition at the law enforcement officers, resulting in five police officers sustaining injuries of varying severity.

In addition to using grenades, the offender attempted to cause a large-scale disaster in the residential area. 

During negotiations, he stated that he had turned on the gas supply in the building, creating a real risk of explosion for residents of neighboring houses.

Thanks to the prompt actions of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Police, the perpetrator was apprehended at the scene. Law enforcement is currently investigating how the civilian obtained the ammunition and the motives behind the crime.

The injured police officers are receiving necessary medical care at healthcare facilities. 

The investigation is ongoing, and criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the attack on law enforcement officers and the threat of a gas explosion.

According to preliminary reports from local media, unrequited love may have been the cause of the altercation. 

On Saturday, April 18, 58-year-old Dmytro Vasylchenkov opened fire on passersby on Demiivska Street, after which he took hostages at the “Velmart” supermarket. Six people were killed in the attack, and about 15 others were injured to varying degrees. 

Earlier, a video surfaced online showing police officers fleeing from the shooter during the April 18 attack in Kyiv, leaving civilians behind, including a child.

At the instruction of Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, an internal investigation has been launched into the actions of patrol officers at the scene of the shooting in Kyiv. For the duration of the investigation, the police officers involved in the incident have been suspended from duty
