Search and exhumation work has been completed at the Holosko Cemetery, during which the remains of Polish and German soldiers were discovered. In total, the remains of 133 soldiers were found.

In Lviv, exhumation work has been completed at the site of the former cemetery in the village of Velyke Holosko, which is now part of Lviv’s Shevchenkivskyi District. Experts examined an area of approximately 260 m², where they discovered three rows of military graves. In total, the remains of 115 soldiers of the Polish Army and 18 German soldiers were exhumed. All of them were killed during the fighting in September 1939. This was reported on Monday, September 28, by the Institute of National Remembrance of Poland.

Approximately 2,900 items were found near the soldiers’ remains, including pieces of military equipment and uniforms (such as military buttons, buckles, helmets, bayonets, and identification tags), as well as personal belongings (wallets, coins, essential items, and keys) and religious objects.

The remains of 18 German soldiers were also discovered at the excavation site. They were handed over to representatives of the Volksbund organization, which is responsible for locating and burying the remains of German soldiers.

Work is currently underway to restore the site. At the same time, efforts are continuing to locate the relatives of the Polish soldiers whose remains were exhumed so that they can be identified through DNA testing. The Polish Army soldiers will be reburied at the cemetery in Mostyska.
