In the Kharkiv region, three men were killed when a grenade exploded during a feast
Three men were killed in an explosion in the town of Zlatopil, Lozova District, Kharkiv Oblast. According to preliminary reports, the tragedy was caused by careless handling of a grenade while under the influence of alcohol.
The Central Criminal Police Department reported two fatalities, while police stated that there were three victims. Earlier, the mayor of Zlatopil reported that the men died as a result of careless handling of an explosive device.
According to preliminary reports, the three men were standing near a car and drinking alcohol. According to eyewitnesses, one of them handed his jacket to another. While checking the pocket, the other man discovered a grenade. As a result of careless handling of the explosive, the safety pin was pulled out, causing an explosion.
As a result of their injuries, the three men—two born in 2003 and one born in 1999—died at the scene.
Investigators have entered the details of this incident into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under paragraph 1, part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, with the note “accident.”
Police are currently working to determine all the circumstances of the tragedy. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
The Kharkiv Regional Police urged citizens not to store weapons, ammunition, or other explosive items.
“Any careless handling of these items can lead to fatal consequences.
If you discover any suspicious or explosive objects, immediately report them to the special hotline at 102 or 112,” law enforcement officials stated.
