The M-09 international highway has been blocked in the Lviv region due to a protest

On Thursday, July 9, residents of the village of Hryada in the Lviv region blocked the M-09 international highway between Ternopil, Lviv, and Rava-Ruska. People are protesting changes to the road’s major repair project, which, they say, deprived the village of one of the two promised bus stops.

About 60 local residents took part in the protest. At around 11:13 a.m., they began walking continuously across the crosswalk, effectively blocking traffic.

Residents claim that during public hearings, representatives of the Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service promised to build two bus stops—one in each direction of traffic. However, they say that currently, only one is being built.

In addition, the protesters claim that the location where the bus stop is planned is dangerous due to limited visibility and the road’s incline. According to them, traffic accidents resulting in injuries have occurred repeatedly on this stretch of road.

It should be noted that major repairs to the M-09 highway have been underway since 2025, funded by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
