A scheme involving the sale of counterfeit batteries under the DURACELL brand has been uncovered in Lviv Oblast
Law enforcement officials have uncovered a group of individuals who, according to the investigation, organized the manufacture and sale of counterfeit batteries in the Lviv region, illegally using the DURACELL trademark.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Three participants in the scheme have already been notified of charges under the article regarding the illegal use of a trademark for goods and services, committed by a group of individuals and causing particularly significant financial damage to the rights holder.
The investigation established that between 2024 and 2025, the suspects imported over 1.4 million unmarked batteries into Ukraine, after which they used special equipment to apply markings of well-known brands, including DURACELL, to them. The products were subsequently sold as genuine items throughout Ukraine.
According to preliminary data, the DURACELL mark alone was illegally applied to at least 119,200 batteries. The amount of damages to the rights holder, according to the investigation’s estimates, exceeds 5 million UAH.
The criminal proceedings are being investigated, in particular, following a complaint from the American company DURACELL BATTERIES BVBA.
The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasized that protecting intellectual property rights, international business, and investors is a priority, as such violations negatively impact fair competition and the investment climate in Ukraine.
At the same time, the office noted that, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
As a reminder, in Kharkiv, law enforcement agencies shut down two illegal tobacco businesses, conducting over 50 searches in the process, with the total value of seized property exceeding 37 million UAH.
Earlier, in the Kyiv region, a scheme involving the illegal appropriation of 6.7 hectares of recreational land was uncovered.
In the Mykolaiv region, law enforcement uncovered a scheme in which counterfeit foreign documents were produced for Ukrainian citizens subject to military service so they could avoid military registration checks and move freely throughout the country.
