In the Odesa region, an officer demanded $23,000 to resolve issues with the Medical Examination Commission
In the Odesa region, law enforcement officials have exposed a servicemember from one of the military units who, according to the investigation, demanded $23,000 to influence the decision of a military medical commission.
According to the investigation, in June 2026, a 33-year-old reserve battalion officer offered to help a soldier retake the medical examination and obtain medical reports that could serve as grounds for declaring him unfit for further service.
For his services, the suspect allegedly demanded $23,000, claiming that he had influence over officials on the military medical commission. According to him, he could facilitate the reversal of the previous medical board’s conclusion and the adoption of a new decision regarding unfitness for military service, which would enable the soldier to be discharged from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers detained the officer while he was receiving an illegal benefit in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
During the investigative proceedings, cash, a mobile phone, and the suspect’s vehicle were seized.
Under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, the servicemember was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence).
The court has already imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of round-the-clock house arrest.
At the same time, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court conviction.
This was reported by the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Defense Sector of the Southern Region.
