In Sumy Oblast, a former member of the Party of Regions was convicted of treason and collaboration with the FSB

Based on the case presented by prosecutors from the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the court found a 58-year-old resident of Trostyanets guilty of high treason committed under martial law. The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

According to the investigation, the defendant had been in contact with a representative of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) since February 2024. He collected and transmitted to his Russian handler detailed coordinates and data on the number of personnel and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Okhtyrka district, and also called for strikes against Ukrainian defenders to be carried out as soon as possible. In addition, the traitor sought out new candidates for recruitment by enemy intelligence services.

The convicted man was born in Russia, served in Russian cities before Ukraine gained independence, and was previously a member of the local branch of the “Party of Regions.” In court, the man did not admit his guilt, claiming that he still adheres to his previously taken oath and obligations to the intelligence services. The court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

It was previously reported that law enforcement officers detained a man who had been recruited by Russian intelligence services. The suspect attempted to secure a leadership position at one of Ukraine’s key energy sector enterprises in order to pass sensitive information to Russia.
