YouTube Has Blocked Another 25 Channels Spreading Russian Propaganda — CPD
YouTube has blocked or completely removed another 25 channels from its platform that are linked to Russian propaganda and the information war against Ukraine. Among them are channels run by sanctioned individuals, Kremlin-affiliated media outlets, and organizations that spread disinformation and justified Russia’s aggression. Some of the channels were removed from the platform, while others were blocked for users in Ukraine.
YouTube decided to block or remove 25 channels linked to Russian propaganda outlets and individuals involved in the information war against Ukraine. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, the restrictions target channels of propaganda media, pro-Kremlin organizations, so-called “volunteer” groups in Russia, and individual propagandists.
Among the resources removed from the platform are the channels of the propaganda projects “Ukraine.ru” and “RIA Novosti.” YouTube also removed the channel of sanctioned politician Yevgeny Murayev, as well as the pages of Russian propagandists Tatyana Montyan and Alexander Sladkov. In addition, access to the channels of individuals subject to sanctions by the National Security and Defense Council has been blocked in Ukraine. Specifically, this includes the channels of Vsevolod Filimonenk, Yuriy Kot, and Yevgeny Muraev.
The restrictions also apply to the pages of Russian propagandists Anton Kholodov and Dmitry Guliev, the ZvezdaNEWS television channel, as well as the organizations “All-Russian Cossack Society” and “Union of Journalists of Russia.”
The Center for Countering Disinformation noted that these resources were used to spread false information, justify Russia’s war against Ukraine, and support the actions of the occupying forces. “These resources spread disinformation, justified the Russian Federation’s armed aggression, and were used to support the occupying forces and Kremlin propaganda,” the Center reported. The agency added that efforts to identify and block hostile information platforms are ongoing.
Previously, Ukrainian and international platforms had repeatedly restricted access to Russian propaganda resources due to the dissemination of disinformation and materials supporting the Kremlin’s aggressive policies. This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
