Over the course of a month, 56 dead dolphins washed up on the shores of the Tuzly Estuaries
Over the past month, 56 dead dolphins have been found along the coast of the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park. Park officials called this number unprecedented and linked the mass death of cetaceans to the consequences of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
Additionally, cetaceans showing signs of trauma have been observed near Odesa. According to estimates by the park’s scientists, approximately 100,000 Black Sea cetaceans have died in the Black and Azov Seas over the past 4.5 years of the war.
Experts explain that the marine ecosystem is being negatively impacted by mine explosions, missile strikes, the operation of powerful sonar systems, chemical pollution, and other consequences of military operations.
Park officials warn that the Black Sea is approaching a critical threshold, and Black Sea cetacean populations continue to decline rapidly.
