Power has been restored at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
Power engineers have restored external power supply to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The plant is once again receiving electricity via a 330 kV line. Energoatom emphasizes that every such power outage poses serious risks to nuclear safety.
External power supply to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been restored following another blackout. This was reported by the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom.” According to the company, power was restored on June 13 at 2:30 p.m. The power needs of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant are currently being met via a 330 kV overhead power line.
Energoatom noted that this is already the 19th instance of a complete loss of external power at the Zaporizhzhia NPP since Russian troops occupied the plant. This is the seventh such blackout since the beginning of 2026 alone. The company emphasizes that every such outage poses a serious threat to nuclear and radiation safety. “Every loss of external power poses serious risks to the nuclear and radiation safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant,” Energoatom emphasized.
They noted that a stable power supply is essential for the safe operation of the nuclear power plant. The operation of cooling systems and other critically important equipment depends on it. The company also stated that safe operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP can only be fully guaranteed after it returns to Ukrainian control. “Only the return of the Zaporizhzhia NPP to the control of Ukraine and its legitimate operator can guarantee the safe operation of the facility and eliminate threats to Ukraine, Europe, and the world,” Energoatom emphasized.
The Zaporizhzhia NPP remains the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It has been under Russian occupation since March 2022, and concerns about its safety regularly arise both in Ukraine and among international organizations.
The latest restoration of power allowed the plant to exit blackout mode, but experts remind us that the situation surrounding the ZNPP remains extremely dangerous, and repeated outages could have serious consequences. This was reported by NAEK "Energoatom" on Telegram.
