Bad weather is expected to hit Ukraine on May 19

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has issued a warning about dangerous weather conditions expected in most regions of the country on May 19.

The severe weather could cause serious disruptions to infrastructure and transportation. Due to a significant deterioration in weather conditions, a Level 1 hazard warning has been issued in many regions.

The natural disaster will affect almost the entire country, with the exception of the western regions, where the weather will remain relatively calm.

The main threats will be sudden thunderstorms accompanied by strong gusts of wind. In some regions, weather conditions will become stormy.

“On May 19 during the day in Ukraine, except for the west, thunderstorms are expected; in the southern and central regions (except for Vinnytsia), hail and squalls of 15–20 m/s are possible in some areas. Level 1 danger, yellow,” the report states.

Experts urge citizens to exercise extreme caution while outdoors. It is recommended to avoid staying near large trees, billboards, and power lines.

Public utilities are already preparing to address the potential consequences of heavy downpours and strong gusty winds.

The expected weather conditions could create emergency situations for many sectors of the economy and urban life. Open facilities and supply networks are at particular risk.

Heavy hail and gusts of wind can damage communication lines.

Forecasters emphasize: “Weather conditions may complicate operations for energy, construction, and utility companies, as well as transportation.”
