Norway will allocate more than €100 million for maritime drones for Ukraine
The Norwegian government has announced the allocation of 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner, equivalent to approximately 109 million euros, for the development and procurement of maritime drones for Ukraine.
The funds will be used for the development, production, and supply of maritime drones created by Norwegian and Ukrainian defense companies.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated that the country has one of the world’s most powerful maritime sectors, and that its accumulated experience can be used to support Ukraine in the war against Russia.
According to him, maritime drones are already playing a crucial role in conducting reconnaissance, carrying out strike missions, and defending against Russian attacks.
The new support package was announced following Støre’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the Nordic-Baltic Summit in Tallinn.
The Norwegian government emphasized that maritime drones are crucial for ensuring the safety of shipping and facilitating the export of Ukrainian grain and other goods through the Black Sea.
Norway, together with the United Kingdom, leads the Maritime Capabilities Coalition in support of Ukraine. Since its creation in 2023, the countries have been working to strengthen the capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy and develop maritime technologies.
