The Ombudswoman Fined MP Feldman for a Russian-Language Advertisement
Olena Ivanovska, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, issued resolutions imposing fines of 5,100 hryvnias on People’s Deputy Oleksandr Feldman and Roman Zagorodniy, head of the public association “Peace. Development. Stability.”
The basis for these state control measures was complaints from the civic movement “CHESNO” regarding the dissemination of paid Russian-language advertisements on social media. Specifically, Feldman distributed targeted posts in a non-state language on his own Meta page, while the public association “Peace. Development. Stability” posted advertisements in Russian in support of another member of the organization—People’s Deputy Yuriy Boyko.
Following the review of the administrative cases, the official drew up reports on violations of the Law “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language” and held Feldman and Zagorodniy accountable.
This is stated in a report by the language ombudsman.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, appealed to the Security Service of Ukraine regarding the situation at the Odesa Regional Academic Drama Theater. The reason was statements captured on audio recordings that may contain signs of inciting national enmity and hatred.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, fined the business entity 11,900 UAH for a repeat violation of language legislation within a year.
