Revising the gas price cap will help prepare for winter — expert

The transition to market-based gas prices for private electricity producers is the right decision and will help Ukraine prepare for the heating season.

According to expert Mykhailo Svyshcho, private companies previously received gas at subsidized prices but sold electricity at market rates.

This created market distortions and placed an additional burden on the state.

Under the current conditions of war and resource shortages, the state cannot continue to subsidize a significant number of consumers.

The transition to market conditions will allow Naftogaz to accumulate sufficient gas reserves for the population, district heating companies, and budgetary institutions.

Gas prices in Europe have nearly doubled due to the war in the Middle East, which is complicating imports.

At the same time, gas remains cheaper in Ukraine thanks to domestic production.

Subsidies will be retained only for heat and hot water production, as well as for frontline territories.

According to an expert’s assessment, the government’s decision will not affect the stability of the power grid.

Also, Britain has called for preparations to defend Europe without the U.S.

Over the past two days, seven ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz — TRT.
