Police have charged a detainee who filmed the humiliation of a cellmate in Odesa
An investigation is underway at the Odesa Pretrial Detention Center into a case of brutal abuse of a detainee, who turned out to be a former employee of the district traffic police department.
One of the facility’s inmates deliberately provoked a conflict, humiliated and beat his new cellmate, and forced him to perform degrading acts.
The perpetrator recorded all of his illegal actions on his cell phone.
According to investigators, the incident occurred in late May in one of the detention center’s cells. The attacks on the newly arrived 50-year-old man were carried out by a 45-year-old suspect in a robbery who was already in custody.
The suspect brutally beat the victim and forced him to carry out humiliating orders, including kneeling and carrying slippers in his teeth.
Law enforcement officers quickly gathered evidence and formally charged the suspect. The investigation is ongoing, and all details and circumstances of the incident are being established.
If the man is found guilty in court, he faces up to six years in prison.
The victim in this high-profile case was an official of the TCC, who was detained along with eight accomplices on suspicion of torturing and unlawfully detaining civilians.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), the criminal group consisted of six TCC officials and three representatives of a civil society organization.
They forcibly transported conscripts to the recruitment center, illegally detained them, beat and intimidated them, and committed acts of sexual violence against the victims.
This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.
