More than 200 trees were cut down in six months in the Kirovohrad region

In the Kirovohrad region, a group of men suspected of systematic illegal logging has been exposed. Over the course of six months, they cut down more than 200 trees and caused damages amounting to over 4 million hryvnias. Three participants in the scheme have been charged. The issue of compensation for the damages is currently being resolved, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

In the Kirovohrad region, law enforcement officials uncovered an illegal logging scheme that had been operating for several months. According to the investigation, from September 2025 to March 2026, three men regularly entered the protective forest belts of the Dolynska community and cut down trees without any permits.

These were not isolated incidents but part of a systematic operation. During this time, over 200 trees of various species—acacias, maples, and oaks—were destroyed. In just one instance, 153 trees were illegally cut down. Prosecutors say they operated according to a clear scheme: after felling the trees, they transported, stored, and sold the timber to residents of the Kropyvnytskyi district. They divided the proceeds among themselves.

According to estimates by the State Environmental Inspection, the damage to the environment exceeds 4 million hryvnias.

Prosecutors from the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office have notified the three suspects of charges under Part 4 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative proceedings are currently underway, and measures are being taken to compensate the state for the damages incurred.

The agency notes that, in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
