Despite the war, Ukraine is preparing to welcome tens of thousands of Hasidim to Uman
Ukraine is preparing for the arrival of tens of thousands of Hasidic pilgrims in Uman for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations. Despite the full-scale war and rocket and drone attacks, authorities are coordinating preparations for the mass pilgrimage, which takes place annually at Rabbi Nachman’s grave.
According to Yevhen Korniychuk, central and local authorities, the police, rescue workers, border guards, and medical services are all involved in organizing the events.

The main focus is on the pilgrims’ safety, their border crossings, accommodations, medical care, and access to shelters. At the same time, the diplomat emphasized that it is impossible to guarantee complete safety in wartime.
Pilgrims are advised to familiarize themselves with the latest recommendations from Ukrainian authorities before traveling, not to ignore air raid alerts, and to find out in advance where shelters are located. Other risks include possible transportation delays, a limited number of shelters, and insufficient medical resources in Uman to simultaneously care for such a large number of people.
The Ukrainian side has also prepared a list of necessary medical equipment and supplies to support the pilgrims. This list was forwarded to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Haredi community with the expectation that the necessary supplies will be delivered in time for the start of the celebrations.
The ambassador emphasized that Ukraine, despite the war, continues to respect freedom of religion and the tradition of Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman. At the same time, he urged those planning the trip to be aware of the risks and to strictly adhere to the requirements of Ukrainian security services.
Yevhen Korniychuk, Ukraine’s ambassador to Israel, spoke about this in an interview with the Israeli publication “Behadrei Haredim.”
As a reminder, Uman is preparing to welcome more than 40,000 Hasidim for Rosh Hashanah.
On the eve of the annual Hasidic pilgrimage for Rosh Hashanah, Israel’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Michael Brodsky, visited Uman. The diplomat donated a water purification system to a local hospital.
Earlier, a delegation from the city of Uman in the Cherkasy region visited Israel, where they discussed issues related to the city’s development and Ukrainian-Israeli cooperation.
