Planting Calendar for April 6–12: The Best Days for Gardeners

April is one of the busiest months of the spring season for gardeners and vegetable growers. From April 6–12, the moon is in its waning phase, which is traditionally considered the best time to work with root vegetables and bulbous plants. This is also the ideal week for transplanting seedlings—plants adapt more quickly to their new location thanks to strong root activity.

Moon Phases (April 6–12, 2026)

  • April 6–9: Waning Moon. A favorable time for planting crops that yield underground.

  • April 10: First Quarter. The plants’ energy is concentrated in the roots.

  • April 11–12: The Moon continues to wane, approaching the new moon.

Recommendations by Day

April 6–7 (favorable days) This is a great time to plant crops that prefer deep planting.

  • What to plant: Carrots, beets, celery (root), parsnips.

  • Garden tasks: You can plant fruit tree seedlings and berry bushes. A favorable time to fertilize plants with organic fertilizers.

April 8–9 (favorable days) The Moon’s energy helps strengthen the root system.

  • What to plant: Early potatoes, radishes, daikon radish, onion sets, garlic.

  • Tasks: Sowing peas and beans in open ground (weather permitting). You can prune trees and shrubs to stimulate the growth of side branches.

April 10 (neutral day) Third Quarter Moon. It is better to focus on care rather than active planting.

  • Tasks: Control of pests overwintering in the soil. Loosening the soil, thinning seedlings in greenhouses or on windowsills.

April 11–12 (unfavorable days) The Moon enters unproductive signs, and plant energy decreases.

  • Recommendations: Avoid sowing and transplanting. It’s better to devote these days to household chores.

  • Tasks: Cleaning the plot, preparing garden beds, repairing gardening tools, purchasing seeds or fertilizers.

However, in addition to the moon phases, gardeners should pay closer attention to weather conditions. The second week of April in Ukraine will be marked by a gradual cooling trend with snow and frost, which could undo all your efforts.
