The PURL program covers only Ukraine's basic need for Patriot missiles
Ukraine is receiving PAC-2 and PAC-3 interceptor missiles for its Patriot air defense systems from the United States through the PURL program, which provides a minimum monthly supply. However, due to the escalating scale and intensity of Russian ballistic missile attacks, this quantity is insufficient to fully defend the airspace.
Ukrainian diplomats are working on all fronts to secure additional air defense capabilities. Despite its own defense needs, particularly in the Middle East, the U.S. continues to include interceptors in PURL packages.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an interview with Alona Getmanchuk, head of Ukraine’s mission to NATO.
U.S. President Donald Trump shared an article from The Washington Post on his social media platform, Truth Social, in which the author proposes allowing Ukraine to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles. The article states that such a decision could simultaneously help Ukraine and reduce the burden on American and European arms production.
Deliveries of U.S. weapons to Ukraine under the PURL initiative continue, despite Donald Trump’s statements about a temporary suspension of ammunition exports. NATO has confirmed that, under the program, Ukraine receives 75% of its Patriot missiles and 90% of its air defense ammunition funded by allies and partners.
