The Interconfessional Council on Military Pastoral Care under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine submitted the proposal to the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
The initiative received unanimous support from all churches and religious organizations represented on the aforementioned Interconfessional Council under the Ministry of Defense.
“In its statement, the AUCCRO notes that the issue of establishing a Military Chaplain’s Day in Ukraine has already been raised at meetings of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations with the President of Ukraine, specifically on April 13, 2026, as well as in the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations’ appeal to the Head of State in December 2025,” the statement reads.
Military chaplains of various denominations, the Council of Churches noted, support the morale of Ukrainian defenders by standing alongside them.
“Members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations believe that establishing a Military Chaplain’s Day in Ukraine will contribute to the further development of chaplaincy ministry in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the National Guard and the Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as well as to the overall strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
In light of this, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations has appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in support of the initiative to establish October 12 as Military Chaplain Day in Ukraine each year,” the statement concluded.
