Krupa's relative to face trial over $540,000 hidden in Austria
The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has concluded its investigation into a former official of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine who is accused of failing to declare $540,000 in an Austrian bank account. The indictment has already been submitted to the court. According to the investigation, these funds were not listed in her annual financial disclosure statement for 2023.
The case involves a former official of the Central-Western Interregional Directorate of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in Khmelnytskyi. At the time of the alleged offense, she headed one of the ministry’s directorates. According to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), in her 2023 declaration, the woman failed to disclose an account at an Austrian bank and the funds held in it.
The amount totaled 540,000 U.S. dollars. At that time, this was more than 19.5 million hryvnias. The woman in question is a relative of the former head of the Khmelnytskyi Medical and Social Expert Commission, Tetiana Krupa, whose case became one of the most high-profile stories involving the assets of officials from medical and social expert commissions. The woman has since been dismissed from her position. She no longer works in the judicial system.
The investigation has already been completed
In June 2026, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), in collaboration with the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NAZK) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), notified the former official of the charges against her. She does not admit guilt. After the pre-trial investigation was completed, the indictment was sent to court. Now the court must evaluate the evidence and determine whether the official intentionally concealed information about her assets.
She is charged with intentionally entering knowingly false information into her declaration. This falls under Part 2 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is also examining other circumstances. In particular, law enforcement officials are investigating the origin of the funds in the Austrian account. Separately, as part of other criminal proceedings, they are looking into possible shady deals involving representatives of this business family.
What the former official faces
Under the charged article, the woman could face up to two years in prison. The court may also bar her from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years. At the same time, a final decision in the case has not yet been made. The filing of an indictment with the court does not automatically imply guilt—that must be determined by the court. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation’s press center.
Law enforcement officials uncovered a scheme involving the illegal extraction of minerals at a deposit near Uzhhorod. According to the investigation, the state suffered losses of over 949.8 million hryvnias, and four participants in the scheme—including a deputy of the Transcarpathian Regional Council—have already been notified of the charges against them.
