Russian drone hits a building: Kyiv residents show their damaged apartments
In Kyiv’s Podil district, cleanup efforts are underway following a nighttime attack by Russian drones. After a “Shahed” drone struck, a fire broke out in a 16-story building in the “City of Flowers” residential complex on the 14th and 15th floors.
Residents of the damaged apartments described their experiences and showed the aftermath of the attack. At this point, people do not know whether their homes can be fully restored.
Videos from the scene have appeared online, striking viewers with their stark contrast and the mood of Kyiv residents. One of the clips shows fire trucks still parked near the damaged high-rise, the area cordoned off with tape, and nearby, on a playground, a child carefree on a swing.
At the same time, residents of the damaged apartments are trying to stay optimistic. When asked how they managed to escape from the burning building, one woman remarked ironically, “We have good anti-drone curtains.”
Her husband pointed to the windows on the upper floors—shattered by the blast wave—where their apartment had been. When asked if the apartment could be repaired, he replied, “I have no idea; we’ll have to wait for the inspection and the experts’ assessment.”
Emergency services are currently still working at the scene and assessing the extent of the damage.

Kyiv City Express train service has been temporarily suspended due to an elevated air threat. City commuter train service will resume once the air threat has passed and the necessary authorization is received.
In Kyiv, there is a proposal to allow metro trains to operate during air raid alerts on certain sections of the line in order to reduce the burden on ground transportation and cut travel time for thousands of passengers.
