The SBU has uncovered a large-scale embezzlement scheme involving a former beneficiary

The Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Office of the Prosecutor General, has documented new instances of criminal activity by the former beneficial owner of one of Ukraine’s largest banks.

This was reported by the SBU.

The investigation established that in 2014, the suspect and individuals associated with him illegally appropriated over 100 million hryvnias from a financial institution under their control. The scheme involved withdrawing credit resources and subsequently disguising their movement through a series of financial transactions.

Controlled companies received loans without proper collateral and without a real business purpose. Subsequently, the funds passed through a network of legal entities and individuals, creating the appearance of legitimate circulation.

According to the investigation, some of the assets subsequently ended up in the personal accounts of the scheme’s organizers under the guise of fulfilling contractual obligations. In particular, in December 2014, significant sums were transferred to the suspect’s account from a company under his control.

Law enforcement officials note that bank officials and executives of controlled companies, who facilitated the movement of funds and the documentation of transactions, may have been involved in the scheme.

The former beneficial owner of the bank has been charged under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraudulent appropriation of property on an especially large scale, committed by an organized group). He faces up to 12 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. According to media reports, the case involves Ihor Kolomoyskyi and possible embezzlement of PrivatBank funds.

The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the Office of the Prosecutor General, announced another charge against businessman Ihor Kolomoyskyi. Details of the case are not being disclosed at this time.

Additionally, Kolomoiskyhas alleged that expert evidence was falsified in a Kyiv court.

Kolomoisky will remain in pretrial detention until May 1.

As a reminder, the court ruled that the attempted assassination of Kolomoyskyi would not be investigated.
