The SBU detained a person who directed attacks on energy facilities in the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions

The Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent who was gathering coordinates for new missile and drone strikes on the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions. Among the main targets of the Russian forces were energy infrastructure facilities, logistics depots, and Ukrainian air defense positions.

According to the investigation, the detainee was an employee of an agricultural company in the Kyiv region who had been recruited by the Russian intelligence service after he sought “easy” money on Telegram channels.

Law enforcement officials determined that during trips to visit relatives in the Cherkasy region, the man identified potential targets, marked their locations on Google Maps, and transmitted the coordinates to his FSB handler.

SBU officers exposed the agent in advance, documented his activities, and detained him at his residence in the Kyiv region. During a search, they seized his smartphone, which contained evidence of correspondence with a representative of the Russian intelligence service.

The detainee was notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). He is currently being held in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

This was reported by the SBU press service on July 15.

As a reminder, pensioners in Kyiv handed over more than 8 million hryvnias to scammers who posed as SBU employees.

The SBU uncovered the embezzlement of state funds allocated for the Trypillya and Zmiiv Thermal Power Plants.
