During his visit to Tokyo, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga met with Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Ryosei Akazawa.
The parties discussed strengthening economic cooperation, Ukraine’s energy security, and Japan’s participation in the country’s reconstruction.
According to Sibiga, the talks focused on key areas of bilateral cooperation:
strengthening economic cooperation between Ukraine and Japan;
strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience;
Japan’s role in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that deepening cooperation with Japan could accelerate Ukraine’s modernization and facilitate the transition to a technology-oriented and sustainable economy.
Sybiga also thanked the government and people of Japan for their support of Ukraine following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, emphasizing that Tokyo remains an important partner for Kyiv in the areas of recovery and development.
“In Tokyo, I held a substantive meeting with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, Ryosei Akazawa. We discussed strengthening economic cooperation between Ukraine and Japan, Ukraine’s energy security, and the Japanese government’s important role in Ukraine’s recovery,” he noted.
As a reminder, Japan has allocated $14.658 million to implement the NATO PURL initiative, which involves the procurement of equipment for Ukraine’s needs.
Ukraine and Japan have agreed to establish a joint venture capital fund and an investment hub in Osaka, which is intended to serve as a platform for attracting Japanese businesses. The parties are focusing not only on reconstruction but also on deep economic transformation, with an emphasis on technology and local production.
