The case involving a $100,000 bribe at Ukrzaliznytsia is being referred to court

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) have completed a pretrial investigation into an official at JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” who is suspected of soliciting and receiving a bribe of $100,000. According to investigators, he demanded the money in exchange for facilitating the dismantling or relocation of a railroad track that was hindering the operations of a private company.

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announced the completion of the pre-trial investigation into the case of the deputy director of the Environmental Safety Division within the Department of Traffic Safety, Occupational Safety, and Environmental Safety at JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia.” Following this, detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine made the criminal case files available to the defense for review. This is one of the final steps before the case is transferred to court.

According to the investigation, in late 2025, the official approached a representative of a company engaged in granite mining and crushed stone production, requesting an unlawful benefit.

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) claims that the amount in question was 100,000 U.S. dollars. In exchange for these funds, according to law enforcement, the official promised to facilitate the dismantling or relocation of a railroad track that was hindering the company’s continued operations. “As part of the pre-trial investigation, it was established that in late 2025, the official asked a representative of the business entity to provide an illegal benefit in the amount of 100,000 U.S. dollars for the dismantling or relocation of a railroad track, which was preventing the company from continuing its business operations,” the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported.

In April of this year, law enforcement officials detained the official after he, according to the investigation, received the agreed-upon sum of $100,000. Currently, a SAPO prosecutor has decided to conclude the pre-trial investigation. The suspect’s defense team has already begun reviewing the case materials. Once this procedure is complete, the indictment may be submitted to the court.

The SAP emphasizes that the investigation was conducted by NABU detectives under the procedural supervision of prosecutors from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. The final decision on the official’s guilt will be made by the court. This information was provided by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

Law enforcement officials have notified the director of one of the branches of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” that he is under suspicion of misappropriating the state-owned company’s property through abuse of his official position. According to the investigation, his actions caused losses exceeding 48 million hryvnias.
