A court has ordered the arrest of a second suspect in the Anastasia Berezovskaya murder case
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has imposed a pretrial detention measure on the second suspect in the case of the murder of Anastasia Berezovskaya. Former law enforcement officer Vitaliy Zhikovich was remanded in custody for 60 days without the possibility of bail.
During the court hearing, the prosecution requested that the suspect be subject to the strictest pretrial measure—detention without the possibility of bail.
The defense, in turn, requested round-the-clock house arrest with the use of an electronic ankle monitor. The court upheld the prosecution’s position.
According to the prosecutor, Zhikovich was born in Azerbaijan. At the same time, attorney Ivan Ivanov stated that his client does not admit guilt. The defense attorney also noted that Zhikovych is acquainted with another suspect in the case—Vladislav Reut, an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate—since, according to him, they both “worked to defend Ukraine.”
