This holiday emerged as part of the process of forming the modern Ukrainian Navy following the declaration of independence, when the state began to rebuild its naval forces based on the Soviet legacy and to create a new naval structure. The history of the Ukrainian Navy has deep roots, but its modern phase of development began in the 1990s, when Ukraine received part of the Black Sea Fleet following the division of assets with Russia.
