Svyrydenko called on the Rada to support higher fines for habitual speeding
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko called on members of the Verkhovna Rada to support stricter penalties for drivers who habitually speed.
According to Svyrydenko, current fines are insufficient and therefore need to be increased.
“It is critically important for us that members of parliament support stricter fines for drivers who consistently exceed the speed limit. These fines must definitely be higher than they are today,” she noted.
Separately, the prime minister emphasized the need to expand the network of automated traffic enforcement cameras.
Svyrydenko also called on parliament to consider the relevant legislative changes as soon as possible.
She had previously discussed the initiatives with Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and government officials. Among the proposed changes:
- a tiered system of fines based on the degree of speeding;
- stricter penalties for repeat offenders;
- development of an automated speed control system.
The government initiative aims to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents caused by speeding.
Svyrydenko emphasized that this is a systemic problem requiring a systemic legislative solution.
She made this statement during “Question Time” in parliament.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, together with government officials, is considering proposals to improve road safety, including changes to approaches regarding liability for speeding.
Svyrydenko named the most promising professions after the war.
Svyrydenko denied rumors about the dismissal of Education Minister Lisovyi.
